Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Boise Affiliate (SGB)
has awarded Adams County Health Center Inc. (ACHC)
a grant in the amount of $9,456.00 to continue the
Breast Health and Screening Outreach Program.
Last
year ACHC received $8,884.80 from SGB to start the
outreach program. Currently Adams County ranks last
in the State of Idaho for women over 39 years of
age who receive yearly mammogram screenings. The ACHC
Breast
Health and Screening Outreach Program started in
November 2008 and ACHC has since scheduled 260 local
women for
mammogram screenings.
The Breast Health and Screening Outreach Program at
ACHC consists of group power point presentations which
teach breast cancer prevention, breast self examination
and other critical breast health topics such as the
effects of hormone therapy on breast tissue. The information
presented also covers diet and exercise. Each attendee
is presented with a backpack stuffed with educational
material, water bottle and pedometer to encourage good
nutrition and exercise. After the presentation there
is time for discussion and questions.

The group sessions have been informative
and those who have attended report the program
was worth taking the time out of their busy day
to attend. The program lasts about 45 to 60 minutes.
Adams County Health Center Inc. will gladly
bring this presentation to your local community
organizations and businesses. If you would like
to schedule a presentation, call ACHC at 253-4242
and ask for Teresa Ludwig. |
Financial assistance for mammogram screening is available.
